Todd has written a fly-tying book like no other, destined to become a classic. And the fly patterns will fool trout anyplace. A.K. Best, author of Fly Tying with A.K.
I read the sections on the tyers I know — some well, others more casually — and Todd invariably nailed them. You don't just learn where they came from and how they got into fly tying, you also get a sense of their style, philosophy and humor and of their lives before or outside of fly fishing. John Gierach, author of Fool's Paradise, Trout Bum, and Standing in a River Waving a Stick. The author lets his subjects use their own voices as they are, rather than his interpretations of what they said. It is a gift that is hard to do as well as Todd has done it here. A first-rate work. John Betts, author and artist. A model of how well a book can be designed and made. It's also a model for the presentation of its serious content: a biographical dictionary of the fly tyers and flies of the Colorado Front Range. And Todd's easy, graceful prose seems to be writing itself. Gordon Wickstrom, author of Late in an Angler's Life and Notes from an Old Fly Book. Splendid and distinctive; loaded with practicality and celebrity. Denver Post, Charlie Meyers |
